Called “Find a Better Job,” The application will search your profile information for items like your hometown, your college, network, and major in order to match you up with upcoming jobs and internships. This is really an extension of CareerBuilder’s CBcampus service, which is targeted towards college students seeking jobs and internships. The opportunities listed in the database at CBcampus are used for matching Facebook (Facebook) users to jobs. The Facebook app also allows you to apply for jobs directly from your Facebook account.

Internet nominated for Nobel Peace Prize 2010

How do you like the idea of Internet being awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 2010? The world might see Internet succeed the 2009 awardee US president Barack Obama as it is officially fighting for the world's most coveted prize alongside a Russian human rights group and a Chinese dissident.

While a Princeton philosophy professor, Kwame Anthony Appiah nominated Liu Xiaobo, a recently jailed Chinese dissident, Norwegian politician Erna Solberg has nominated Russian rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina and her group Memorial, media reports said on Tuesday, Feb 2.

It was the Italian edition of the Wired magazine which supported the idea of an inanimate object getting the prize. Wired reportedly nominated Internet for promoting "dialogue, debate and consensus through communication" as well as democracy.

In an article published on Nov 20, 2009, titled 'Wired Backs Internet for Nobel Peace Prize', the magazine said, "The internet has clearly been a boon for news junkies, LOLcats and the makers of goofball videos. But it’s also proven to be a powerful international force for peace."

“The internet can be considered the first weapon of mass construction, which we can deploy to destroy hate and conflict and to propagate peace and democracy,” Riccardo Luna, editor-in-chief of the Italian edition of Wired magazine opined.

Besides using the instance of Iraq elections to establish how Internet could be used as a 'weapon of global hope', the magazine went on to say how it can be used for terrorism and warfare to prove the power of the media.

So, now that it has been officially nominated, the world has to wait and see if a medium of communication trumps activists and fighters to win the Nobel Prize 2010.

The winner will be announced in Oct 2010.

Google decides to kill evil IE6

Bangalore, Jan 30: Google has begun the drive to phase out support for Microsoft's web browser Internet Explorer 6 among other older browsers.

Starting from Mar 1, Google will start unplugging support of these browsers on the Google Docs suite and the Google Sites editor.

"After that point, certain functionality within these applications may have higher latency and may not work correctly in these older browsers," the company said in a statement on Friday, Jan 29.

After this, Google plans to end support for Google Mail and Google Calendar.

"Starting next week, users on these older browsers will see a message in Google Docs and the Google Sites editor explaining this change and asking them to upgrade their browser. We will also alert you again closer to March 1 to remind you of this change," the statement released on Friday, Jan 29 added.

However, Google Apps will continue to support Internet Explorer 7.0 and above, Firefox 3.0 and above, Google Chrome 4.0 and above, and Safari 3.0 and above.

This move comes after the search engine behemoth expressed anguish over the vulnerability of IE6 to hacking attacks.

Microsoft has also asked its users to upgrade to IE8.

The 8.5-year-old web browser is disliked by web developers as well.

Microsoft releases protective patch for IE

Seattle, Software giant Microsoft Corp has advised all the users of its Internet Explorer to immediately apply a new patch it released on Thursday, Jan 21 to protect the browser from attacks from hackers.

Microsoft's move comes in the wake of the China-Google spat over the alleged hacking attacks targeted at the Internet giant in the country last week.

Informing that the hackers, who are targeting Google among 20 other companies, have discovered a flaw in its browser making it susceptible to attacks, Microsoft told its users that the new patch was 'critical' for their computers' safety.

Symantec Corp researchers found viruses that exploit Microsoft browser's flaw and in turn allow hackers to access the system remotely through websites.

The Microsoft has assured that the PCs are safe once the user applies the patch as it effectively resolves the eight vulnerabilities in the Internet Explorer.

"We're always working, we have fewer vulnerabilities than our competitors," said Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer.

However, Ballmer did not give show any inclination towards pulling out of China like Google threatened to do.

"We respect the laws of China, it's the only appropriate thing for us to do," he said
